3 Reasons to Dream– Moving My Growth Plan Forward

Do you have a dream? Have you forgotten what it means to dream? Have you been discouraged from having dreams, because you believe they are only for children? As a child, you have many dreams such as being a super hero, an Olympic athlete, or a doctor who cures a disease. Adults need to have dreams too. Three reasons why adults need to dream are:

  1. Dreaming gives you focus.
  2. Dreaming motivates
  3. Dreaming moves you to action.

1. Focus

As a child, some of your dreams were a fantasy and others were what you wanted to be when you grew up. A dream is a vision of your future. What is your idea of a successful future? What does it look like? In John C. Maxwell’s Put Your Dream to the Test, he states that “a dream worth pursuing is a picture and blueprint of a person’s purpose and potential.” A dream will help you focus and drive where you spend your time and energy. If your dream is starting a business, learning to play an instrument, or changing careers, it begins with focusing on the vision. Dare to dream big and allow yourself to reach your full potential.

2. Motivation

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines motivation as “the act or process of giving someone a reason for doing something.” Having a defined and achievable dream that you own and are passionate about will provide your motivation. Take a step back and dream big. Connect your dream to your values and priorities. Determine your WHY, your reason for doing something. Reflect on leaders throughout history whose achievements had an incredible impact on our world. What would we all be missing if they had let their setbacks stop their momentum to achieve their dreams? What will you miss out on if you don’t chase your dream?

3. Action

CEO Becky S. Corbett recently spoke at the Association of Christian Childcare Administrators 2017 Annual Meeting where their theme was: Lead. Dream. Act. They discussed the value of dreaming, the importance of focusing on your intentional growth to be sure you are fully committed to your dream, and developing an action plan to achieve it. Dreaming provides you with the picture of your future. Having an awareness of where you are currently and a vision of where you want to be moves you to take the steps necessary to achieve your dream.

Defining your dream provides you with focus and motivation so you can move forward. It allows you to define your purpose and achieve your potential. A dream inspires you. A dream energizes you, and will move you to action. The three reasons to dream are the roadmap to becoming a better you. If that is not the perfect reason, what is?
