In your last performance review, did your supervisor determine your professional training and development plan? Did your family and professors step in to provide you with the answer when you weren’t sure what major to declare in college? We often stumble upon growth opportunities or let others guide our plan. Instead, be intentional and own your growth with these 3 tips:
Tip #1: Be Aware – In order to grow with intention, you first need to know where you are. What are your values? What are your strengths and challenges? What is your dream; were you the architect, or was it built for you? Do your abilities align with your dream? Take the time to Identify because this is all about your intentional growth. Then, determine where you want to be in your growth and form a plan to get there.
Tip #2: Set Growth-Focused Goals – Setting goals can be a valuable way to move yourself forward and be accountable. Achieving goals does not mean you will automatically grow. Identify your growth plan and then focus your goals around your priorities. Establish realistic goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Goals need to be both challenging and attainable.
Tip #3: Start Today – There are only 24 hours in a day and there is never enough time to get everything done. Prioritize your growth, and manage your priorities rather than time. Focus on what you can do today to contribute to achieving your goals.
As a result of following these 3 tips, you will set your path, gain the confidence to articulate your goals, and move your ideas to action. Get started today, and stay motivated by working on your plan each day. Be the leader of your personal and professional growth.
