It is the beginning of the school year, and your children are bringing home more “homework” for you than they have for themselves. The sports season has begun, you still need to rent your child’s band instrument, back to school night is tonight, and you are a working professional. How do you create work-life harmony between your personal and professional life while setting the stage for a successful school year? I use the Producktivity® Principles: Identify. Connect. Organize.
Identify – What does a successful school year look like to you and your family? Do you establish a strong partnership with teachers, volunteer for a field trip, spend time each evening learning about your child’s day? Create a list of the top 10 things that would contribute to your vision of a successful school year.
Connect – Keep in mind the vision and prioritize your top 10 list. It may be unrealistic that you will achieve all 10 items, because as a parent you also need time for self-care, personal growth, and to meet career goals. Narrow your focus to 3 high-value items on the list.
Organize – Plan your days by giving the most time to your 3 high-value items. If you give time to at least one of those items each day, you will achieve your values.
Using the Producktivity® Principles assists me with staying focused on my highest priorities, which reduces my stress level and allows my time with my child to be quality time rather than chaotic time. Children grow up so fast. Value your time as a parent when you are with your child, be an effective leader when you are working, and give your children and co-workers undivided attention. I wish you a school year filled with Producktivity®.
