Moving My Growth Plan Forward by Emily Tevault, Chief Producktivity® Officer
Intentional Personal Growth
Last summer, I asked myself these tough questions:
· Are you committed to your personal growth?
· Do you have a plan?
· What recent actions have you taken to develop yourself?
I was not completely satisfied with my answers. Working alongside of President & CEO Becky Corbett of BSCorbett Consulting, Inc., it was clear that in order to grow with and add value to her company and clients I needed to take action. The hardest part is knowing how to get started. How do you find a good mentor? What books are the most valuable to read? Who are the leaders to follow? I realized that the key was to identify an engaged mentor. I was fortunate to already have Becky as one of my mentors. She coaches and trains clients on intentional personal growth, and walks the talk in her own growth journey.
As a result of having a mentor, I was able to answer my questions to begin my growth journey in the following ways. Becky introduced me to the leadership methods of John Maxwell and provided me with his books,The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Today Matters, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, and Put Your Dreams to the Test. She emailed me Minute with Maxwell words of the day. One of my favorite quotes during a Minute with Maxwell on setbacks is that they are viewed negatively. Instead, view them as set ups for the next part of your life. Becky also gave me Brian Tracy’s effective time management book Eat That Frog. It taught me that we will never be caught up. Instead of getting stressed about catching up, he encourages you to work toward your goals each day to maintain the motivation to keep moving forward. I wrote this down to be reminded of this every day. I am energized to continue on my growth path because I have a mentor, resources, and a plan. Find your mentor today.
