2/16 Presidents Day

If there is one fact almost all Americans know, it is that George Washington was this nation’s first President. Washington served as Commander of the Continental Army in 1775 and was instrumental in freeing America from English rule. He became President in 1789 and was the only President to be unanimously elected. While George Washington’s actual birthday is February 22, the third Monday in February was chosen as the national day of observance in 1968. Officially, this Monday is now called President’s Day and America has created the tradition of commemorating the other President’s. In honor of our nation’s heads of state, here are a few of my favorite quotes:

We are the change we have been waiting for. –President Barack Obama (2009-present)

We need a spirit of community, a sense that we are all in this together. If we have no sense of community, the American dream will wither.  Bill Clinton (1993-2001)

Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. -John F. Kennedy (1961-1963)

A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties. –Harry Truman (1945-1953)

One man with courage is a majority. –Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809)

It is better to be alone than in bad company. -George Washington (1789-1797)

Be a leader, like our nation’s Presidents, and move to action TODAY.
